Florida's Operator Certification Program
Ron McCulley
Ron McCulley

Florida's certification program has improved by leaps and bounds over the last 9 years, evolving from a paper-based to a computer-based testing system. Operators take the exam online at one of 9 selected locations, at dates and times convenient to them, with results available immediately. Previously, the paper-based exams were given only twice per year at six locations and results took weeks to arrive in the mail.

CEU Plan spoke with Ron McCulley, Florida Department of Environmental Protection's (FDEP) Program Administrator about their Operator Certification Program. Click here for full article ...

CEU Plan Co-sponsoring Webinar with IACET

January 29, 2013

CEU Plan earned IACET's distinctive Authorized Provider accreditation in February of this year, enabling our organization to offer IACET CEU's for all our online solutions. IACET accreditation is the standard learners seek for quality when choosing a training provider. The ANSI/IACET Standard is the core of thousands of educational programs worldwide. CEU Plan and IACET want to share the benefits to individuals, training organizations, and particularly to regulatory and licensing bodies that require CE for renewal of licenses and certification. On January 29, 2013, we will be offering a webinar and we hope that you will be able to join us to learn more about the benefits to the field of water, wastewater, environmental health and engineering. In the coming weeks, our staff will be contacting you with details about registration for you and your staff. This is a complimentary webinar with only a simple gotomeeting registration and no charge.
ANSI/IACET (American National Standards Institute and International Association of Continuing Education and Training) has approved CEU Plan, as an Approved Training Provider. In order to achieve Authorized Provider accreditation, CEU Plan completed a rigorous application process, including course review and program audit by an IACET site visitor, and successfully demonstrated adherence to the ANSI/IACET 1-2007 Standards addressing design, development, administration, and evaluation of its program. CEU Plan has pledged its continued compliance with the Standard, and is authorized to use the IACET name, as an Approved Provider.

New Course Releases from CEU Plan

CEU Plan has recently released eleven new courses by a couple of our most popular authors including the 3-hour "Wastewater Microbiology & Process Control" by Toni Gyymph-Martin and three 1-hour Jeff Pugh courses. And we welcome several new instructors including Shawn McKay, Rick Deremiah, James Holeva, Russ Martin and Mike Harrington (see Instructor Spotlight). We also are proud to announce an important streaming course "Industrial Wastewater Treatment" by the late wastewater icon Wes Eckenfelder produced and presented by his protoge at Vanderbilt University, Dr. Alan Bowers. Instructor Spotlight

Mike Harrington

Mike Harrington

Mike Harrington holds certifications in water, wastewater and industrial wastewater treatment, is a Certified Environmental Instructor (CET) and has operational as well as manufacturer work experience. He gives numerous training workshops across the U.S. annually and currently writes and presents these programs on behalf of state-regulatory, industry and training agencies nationwide. He has received high reviewers from students @ CEU Plan that have already taken his courses. They have found Mike's courses to be practical and commonsense approaches to plant operations. Mike has been a very popular instructor at many operator conferences with standing room only in some cases.

In this short video clip, Mike sends a short message and introduces a couple of his courses. If you can't see the video player, click HERE to view the newsletter in you browser.

Mike's courses include:

  • Principles of Chlorination & Dechlorination - 3 hour streaming video format
  • Common Pitfalls of Chemical Feed - 4 hour streaming video format

Water and Wastewater Treatment in the News

In advance of Hurricane Sandy, EPA secured contaminated sites in the federal Superfund program in New Jersey and New York to protect against potential damage. Since the storm, EPA has been assessing these sites. All 105 of the short-term, removal sites have been assessed and do not pose an immediate threat to public health or the environment. Of the 142 long-term, remedial sites in the area, 138 assessments have been completed. EPA will continue to carry out this mission.

A new Colorado River agreement between the United States and Mexico could serve as a model for other countries locked in conflict over water. That was the message Thursday as the sweeping, five-year pact was approved by the Southern Nevada Water Authority and the Colorado River Commission of Nevada in a rare joint meeting.

"Water for Jobs" Campaign Lives Beyond the Election

All of us in the water/wastewater industry know that much of our infrastructure is in dire need of replacement. Water and sewer mains, lift station pumps, wells, and treatment plant equipment, unfortunately, do not live forever—though we often try to make them do so.

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) evaluates America's infrastructure every 4 years and produces an Infrastructure Report Card based on their findings. In 2009, our country earned a disgraceful grade of "D-" for both water and wastewater. Click here for full article ...
